The goal of a homepage is to engage, convince, and convert visitors. However, chances are most homepages will not achieve this. Why? Because the homepage copy is below par.

If you’re a beginner copywriter and struggle with writing homepage copy that converts, here’s my 3-step approach to writing effective and compelling homepage copy.

1. Research positive reviews:

Ever wondered why people buy from a competitor? It’s because there’s something remarkable about their services. Now, you need to find out what this is.

A great way to uncover the remarkable thing about a competitor is to search for reviews. Usually, most online reviews will point out features, qualities, and reasons why users love a competitor. It’s left for you to pick those positive power ideas and add them to your copy.

For example, if a user writes a review saying “I love Channels Bags because they are made of goat leather, resistant to wear and tear”. You can pick the positive word leather and infuse it into your copy. To illustrate this, my copy will read; “At Titan Bags, we work with 100% goat leather. This way you won’t have to worry about tear and wear”.

2. Research negative reviews:

Unlike positive reviews where you search for ideas to add to your copy, negative reviews should never make it to your copy. What you have to do here is; pick the negative reviews and turn them into positive ones in your copy. For example, if a review reads: “they have poor communication and their staff are arrogant.”

You can turn that into: “Our staff is friendly and well-trained to communicate effectively with clients. We do not take customers’ opinions and complaints lightly. We make sure inquiries are duly replied to and complaints resolved swiftly”. This helps you stand out from your competitor.

3. Study other relevant copies:

Whatever niche you’re creating a homepage copy for, someone has already done a similar thing. Therefore, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Just study what’s out there and generate ideas to create something much better. To do this efficiently, pick four competitors and study their copies thoroughly. Find out what their compelling words are and generate ideas from there. This is a great way to write Excellent Compelling Homepage Copies.

I’ve used this 3-step approach to write better copies such as this one here. So, you have it; my 3-step approach to writing compelling homepage copies. Let me know if this piece was helpful by clapping and dropping a response.
